Warren Buffett’s son preaches values as wealth

The son of billionaire investor Warren Buffett has an old-world spiritual message for today’s money-rich parents: teach your children values and do not give them everything they want.

Musician and now author Peter Buffett preaches the message in his new book “Life is What You Make it: Finding Your Own Path to Fulfillment”. Recently released in the United States, it describes how he wound up a “normal, happy” person instead of a spoiled child to one of the world’s richest people.

Buffett, 52, teaches the rewards of self-respect and pursuing one’s own passions and accomplishments rather than buying into society’s concepts of material wealth.

“I am my own person and I know what I have accomplished in my life,” he said. “This isn’t about wealth or fame or money or any of that stuff, it is actually about values and what you enjoy and finding something you love doing.”

Feds: Jilted boyfriend exposes actress’ sham marriage

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — A well-known Mexican soap opera star and her American husband face federal charges of entering a sham marriage so she could get legal residency in the United States.

The government said the fake marriage was exposed when a jilted boyfriend, fashion photographer Markus Klinko, called the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

“This actor should have realized that posing as a bride for immigration purposes could land her a role in a real-life crime drama,” Special Agent Miguel Unzueta said.

The 28-year-old Romero appeared in at least 15 television shows and films since 2005, according to the Internet Movie Database, when prosecutors allege she paid Kent Ross, a pizza delivery man and musician, to marry her.

Romero appeared before a U.S. magistrate on Friday and was released on a $50,000 signature bond. She was ordered to surrender her passport and not to leave Southern California. Her activities will be monitored electronically.

Economic indicators in these metros have gone from bad to worse, with no sign of recovery.

Miami boasts a popular South Beach club scene, Art Deco Architecture, and perhaps the best Cuban food in the country. But residents don’t have much else to celebrate.

More than three years after the economy started its downward slide, the Miami metro area, like a handful of Sun Belt cities, still hasn’t begun to recover. Median home prices in Miami have fallen 38% since its market peaked in the second quarter of 2007; the city’s 11% unemployment rate is above the national average and has grown more than most of the 40 cities we surveyed.

Volcanic ash: Europe flights grounded for third day

Virtually all of Europe’s major airports remain closed as a huge plume of volcanic ash drifts south and east across the continent from Iceland.

Millions of air travellers are stranded across Europe after some 18,600 flights were cancelled on Friday.

The disruption from the spread of ash would continue into Sunday, European aviation agency Eurocontrol said.

Airlines are losing some £130m ($200m) a day in an unprecedented shutdown of commercial air travel.

“Forecasts suggest that the cloud of volcanic ash will persist and that the impact will continue for at least the next 24 hours,” said Eurocontrol, which which co-ordinates air traffic control in 38 nations.

It said it expected only 6,000 flights in European airspace on Saturday, against 22,000 normally.

Bill Clinton Links Talk Radio, Tea Parties to Non-Existent Terrorism

    BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let’s go back, April 24th, 1995, Mississippi, Minnesota.

CLINTON 1995: We hear so many loud and angry voices in America today whose sole goal seems to be to try to keep some people as paranoid as possible and the rest of us all torn up and upset with each other. They spread hate. They leave the impression that — by their very words, that — violence is a acceptable. You ought to see — I’m sure you are now seeing the reports of some things that are regularly said over the airwaves in America today. It is time we all stood up and spoke against that kind of (pounding podium) reckless speech and behavior.

    FOLLOWERS: (applause)

RUSH: That was Bill Clinton, blaming me for the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19th, 1995. Yesterday we had the tea parties, and the Drive-By Media (I’m sure to its great chagrin) is filled with stories about how festive and how peaceful and how unthreatening all of the tea parties were. The effort to infiltrate these tea parties fizzled. They have stories on that that they probably do not like having to report. And, ladies and gentlemen, it’s very clear that these citizen uprisings — genuine grassroots citizen’s uprisings — are far more powerful than an attempt to drum up fake opposition to them from the White House. Yet, Bill Clinton is back in the game, expanding that threat via this sound bite.

Sarah Palin’s Secret, Oprah Winfrey’s Bio, and Jim Carrey’s Twitter Obsession: Buzz Week in Review

This week, two of the country’s most visible women came under an unwelcome glare of publicity when some dirty little secrets got out in the open. Oprah Winfrey had to bear not being in control of her brand when a new and very unauthorized biography by Kitty Kelley came out. And Sarah Palin thought her diva-like demands outlined in a contract for a speaking gig would stay under wraps, but tell that to the Dumpster divers who dug it up. And did we ask for Jim Carrey’s opinion on Tiger? All that and more, in the Buzz Week in Review.

    Oprah’s off week
The queen of talk was rendered mute this week with the entrance of catty profiler Kitty Kelley’s book about her. The unauthorized biography dished out dirt on the daytime diva, who is usually in control of her message, thank you very much. This time the roles were reversed. The tell-all reveals secrets like a relationship with John Tesh in the ’70s (we get why she’d want to keep that quiet). And rumors that she’s gay are making the rounds on the Internet. But even the big buzz around the book hasn’t been enough for major news shows to decline to interview the biographer for fear of Oprah’s wrath. The book brought lookups on the Web for “oprah winfrey affair,” “oprah winfrey tell all book,” and “is oprah winfrey gay.” You can read excerpts from Kitty Kelley’s meow-fest here.

    Sarah Palin’s diva demands
Hockey mom she may be, but the former Alaska governor and Republican candidate for vice president is not exactly a regular gal. For example, she likes her water bottled and her straws bendable. How do we know this? Some enterprising students at Cal State Stanislaus, where Palin is set to speak in June, dug up some pages of her contract from a recycling bin. The immediately resulting media frenzy drew attention to the very details that university officials had refused to disclose, even though critics had argued that as a public university, administrators must reveal what the public had a right to know.
